印象的だった記述は、
・薬剤から何かの病気に罹患した方の訴訟問題が、テレビで報じられていた。この問題に対してとやかく言うつもりはないが、気がかりなことが1つある。どの人も“怒りの人”になっている。“怒りの人”を観るのが、あるときから僕はとてもつらくなった。なぜならば、“怒りの人”の行き着く先に希望はない。たとえ何かを得しても、幸福も安らぎもないと僕は感じる。最終的に辿り着くべきなのは、受け入れること。結局はそこに行くべきではないだろうか。
・病気は辛いが、人を成長させてくれる点では見直すところもある。時に人を変えるきっかけにさえなる力を持つようだ。
・僕はあるときから、言葉選びをやめた、ある日との言葉に出逢ってから。その人は随分前に共産主義の中国で伝道をされてきた人である。その言葉は「どんなに美しい言葉を送っても、その言葉にあなた自身が助けられた経験がなければ、相手の心に決して届きません。あなたの生活の中で、生きて糧となり、困難、試練を乗り越えさせてくれた言葉こそ、人にも伝えることができ、人の心に残る言葉となるのです。そうすると、私たちは本当に少ない言葉しか、人を励ますために使うことはできません」。それ以降、僕は建前だけで内容のない言葉を使うのをやめた。
・僕はある時から、人と衝突や対立があったら、まず「自分が悪い」と思うようにしようと心掛けてきた。というのも、問題が起きると、すぐに「自分が正しい、相手が悪い」となるものだが、大抵は自分にも間違いがあるものだから。たとえ向こうの非でも、怒ることを遅らせることで無為な対立が生まれず、おまけに相手に誤るチャンスができる。すると、なんとなく大きく見えた問題もそれほどでもないことを知る。そんな風にやってきたから、なかなか調子が良かった。

自らが同じような状況におかれたときに、果たしてどのように生きることができるであろうか。深く考えさせられる。
